The proposed lane-rental scheme could charge utilities up to £2,500 a day for peak-time works on busy roads, potentially from spring 2027. Cabinet will also consider camera enforcement at Carden Avenue, London Road, Ditchling Road, Francis Street and the West Street turn into Rottingdean High Street. The council proposes awareness and warning periods before penalties.

Brighton and Hove News reports that the brief for redeveloping St James’ House excludes replacement public parking because of cost. Cabinet is expected to consider starting a formal permanent-closure process. A public consultation would inform that process, including the effects on visitors and neighbouring streets.

Brighton and Hove News reports that a campaign by two local teenagers led to a blue plaque at Jex-Blake’s former home. She led the Edinburgh Seven’s campaign for women to study medicine and went on to become Scotland’s first registered woman doctor.
Sussex Police say a man has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after two men were injured outside Hollywood Bowl at about 22:30 on 30 October. A second man arrested earlier has been bailed pending enquiries. Police ask anyone with relevant footage or information to quote Operation Stargate when reporting online.

All rail lines between Brighton and Worthing will close for engineering work on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. National Rail lists replacement buses to Worthing and Littlehampton. Paper rail tickets will also be accepted on Brighton & Hove bus routes 1, 2, 6, 7, 46 and 49. Allow extra time and check the pickup point for your station.

Brighton & Hove City Council says its Standards Panel upheld a code-of-conduct complaint against Councillor Ty Galvin following an external investigation. The panel recommends an apology and appropriate training. It also recommends that Full Council formally censure him, remove him from committees and subcommittees, and not appoint him to bodies under its control. Those Full Council recommendations should not be read as decisions already implemented.

RadioReverb says rising rent and charges have made its Brighton Open Market base unaffordable and that it anticipates closing by the end of the year unless it finds another home. The volunteer-run station has broadcast full time since 2007 and makes local programmes with around 60 volunteer producers.
